The Fight - Nothing New Since Rock N’ Roll
Punk is apparently not dead. So says The Fight and their allegations in Nothing New Since Rock N’ Roll.
So those bumper stickers were right. Punk is apparently not dead. So says The Fight and their allegations in Nothing New Since Rock N’ Roll. This British girl-fronted band dishes out the warp speed guitar riffs and assertive vocals with a certain force that refuses to be ignored.
Without sacrificing melody, The Fight rocks as hard as… well, a fight. What exactly does a punk rock band sing about? From what I hear, a lot of everything that pisses off the everyman. Or woman. Surprisingly, that premise never gets old. And I guess if you’re British with that whole “London Calling” shtick, punk is in the blood. The lead vocals are strong without being pushy and annoying, and there are these catchy backup guys that chime in every now and then. Charming, really.
I get an audio-memory sort of feeling that when I heard this album, I automatically thought of Less Than Jake’s Hello Rockview; but without the ska trumpets, and all that. However, back when I was listening to Less Than Jake, Jnco jeans were all the rage, and everyone else was listening to No Doubt and the Backstreet Boys. Ah that brings me back to my punk days…
Which are no more. Eh, it didn’t really work since my mother would never let my dye my hair or get anything but my ears pierced and the punker, hardcore kids were older than me so I was never in with their clique. But the appreciation for proper rock n’ roll and punk music still prevailed. While I may have strayed in my later years to a more mellow sound (I guess no more “angry teenager” syndrome) every now and then I’ll feel a craving for something a bit edgier and high-speed. Thus, The Fight is a perfect remedy.
