Buddy Bolden was once known as the "undisputed King of black New Orleans music". He is said to have been the first person to play the kind of music that we would all go on to call jazz, but his life was derailed when he was committed to an asylum at just 30 years old.
Bolden is the upcoming biopic about the life of Buddy Bolden starring Gary Carr (The Deuce), Ian McShane, Michael Rooker, and Yaya DaCosta. The film was directed by Daniel Pritzker (who once bought Jerry Garcia's guitar for $790,000... it's okay, Pritzker's family is one of the wealthiest families in the United States) and will see release May 3, 2019.
The film has had a long history- with original producting beginning all the way back in 2007. The film originally starred Anthony Mackie as the title character. But after the film reshot in 2009, Mackie left the project for the 2015 reshoot replaced by Carr. Check out the trailer above.
