The Pacific Theater comes to life in Midway trailer
“Wait till I get another plane, I’m lining all your friends out right beside you!”
Director Roland Emmerich is back with his next big blockbuster fare. The Independence Day directory last directed 2016's tepid Independence Day: Resurgence, but hopes to bounce back with American war epic Midway. The first trailer has dropped and features what Emmerich is great at- big set pieces, grand scale, and enough explosions to one-up Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor.
The Battle of Midway was a decisive battle that took place on June 4th, 1942- and was the turning point for American forces in the Pacific and marked the US's first big victory.
Midway, the Roland Emmerich production, stars Luke Evans, Patrick Wilson, Ed Skrein, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, one of the Jonas brothers, Aaron Eckhart, and Woody Harrelson.
In an interview with Military.com, Emmerich shared some of the reasons behind doing the movie, stating that he originally wanted to start with a Pearl Harbor story;
"The first time I had the idea to do Midway, it was really like 20 years ago. I had a deal at Sony, but the movie didn't come together because the studio was owned by Japanese, so they were not very inclined to do a movie where they felt like the big losers of a battle. I always wanted to start my movie with Pearl Harbor because you can only understand Midway when you show Pearl Harbor. Midway is more or less a movie about the six months in-between Pearl Harbor and the battle. Then, I thought about our political climate right now where everybody has forgotten how wars are fought and how heroic these people were. I wanted to put a monument to these guys because it's amazing what they did and how selfless they were."
The film is based off a script by Wes Tooke and is slated to hit cinemas November 8th.
