GVRDEN reveal "The Sound of Desperation"
Connecticut band GVRDEN are a blistering reminder of the powerful and moving sounds of Mineral, The Appleseed Cast, and Texas is the Reason
A few weeks ago a proprietor of a relatively small but prominent record label went on a social media rant in an act of desperation because apparently, ever since he had switched to in-house PR, no publication had picked up any of their pressers. It was long, it was winded, and it was desperate. But there is truth to some of what was said, we do get too many emails, we do delete a lot of them, but there is also a lot of terrible, terrible music.
Perhaps it was a little bit of both for that label but in the case of GVRDEN, I'm glad I didn't hit the delete. I'm glad I took an extra few minutes to listen because GVRDEN are the very reason why sometimes the hard slog on both ends is worth it.
The Connecticut band are a blistering reminder of the powerful and moving sounds of Mineral, The Appleseed Cast, and Texas is the Reason. The cascading guitars and the emotive vocals all come crashing down in tidal waves of nostalgia-fueled delight. Sure, you can call it emo (the mid-90s kind), but with the current wave of popularity that a resurgent Mineral find themselves on, it is no surprise that this sound has found new life.
This track, "The Sound of Desperation", is all of that new life. It's a cut off their upcoming EP Seasons and is due June 7th, so there isn't a long wait. But this four-piece have done a lot with one track; a song that is both a reminder and a look ahead.
