Bloom cuts deep on "Cold"
Following up their debut EP Past Tense, Sydney based melodic five-piece Bloom have dropped the single "Cold" alongside a brand new music video
Melodic hardcore is just a consistently phenomenal genre of music isn’t it? The emotion and pain that bands release through this genre is always a treat to absorb as a listener, and there is no shortage of that with Bloom’s new single “Cold”. Following up their debut EP Past Tense, the Sydney based melodic five-piece has dropped the single alongside a brand new music video, while announcing the “Cold” release show for June 15th.
Past Tense was an incredibly powerful release. Short and sharp, yet effective, Bloom did everything in their power to make their listeners feel something. “Cold” is no different in this regard, as the soft echoing tones filled with melodically echoing guitars, slow impactful drums, and deep bass, contrast the harsh vocals perfectly.
Vocally and lyrically, it feels like they have stuck a hand inside your chest and clenched it firmly around your heart. Unable to move and unable to breathe, you stand perfectly still with your breath held, as you take in the music that is paralyzing you. Brutal screaming vocals display an unmatched pain, as the lyrics tell a story of suffering. Seemingly losing themselves and everything they hold dear, they are worn down, bit by bit, as every little mental hit feels like a knife to the heart.
Clean vocals are a welcome addition to the Bloom sound, and play an integral role in making sure “Cold” maintains its emotional intensity. This combines with the powerful screaming vocals and dreamy instrumentals to create an atmosphere of emotion. This is something Bloom has excelled at, and while they are still a fairly young band, I just can’t wait to hear and see more.
Come to Brazil (Melbourne).
