The first single from the forthcoming Smashing Pumpkins record Zeitgeist has leaked a bit early (it was supposed to hit radio Monday), and Deaf Indie Elephants has a sub-par radio rip of the song, “Tarantula.”

The audio quality, is well, crummy at best. But, you can still get a good feel for the vibe they’re going for.

My thoughts…it doesn’t sound too bad. It beats the ever-loving crap out of Corgan’s solo stuff, and seems to have quite a bit more pop than Zwan could have wished for.

Could the Smashing Pumpkins pull a Pearl Jam, and dive back into the spotlight after a lengthy break from the public consciousness (or in SP’s case a break-up)? Only time will tell, but “Tarantula” seems like an alright place to start.
